Photography

These were all made using a flatbed scanner and photoshop. The flatbed scanner is able to get the close up details, and photoshop was used to edit out dust particles. The arrangements were all my own creation. I enjoyed using fresh flowers as well as some fake or dried ones.
The photos here were taken using a Sony camera. I actually only got into photography relatively recently upon taking a class about it. I initially took the class because a professor I enjoyed was teaching it and kept talking about it. I ended up getting roped in and I had enjoyed it enough to keep with it.
I was able to borrow a friend’s camera to then take the intro to photography class where I fell in love with photography. I was then (lightly, but nonetheless-) told to join the advanced class the following semester so I did. I borrowed one of my professor’s cameras to take the class. Gradually, as I’ve taken more photos, I’ve noticed that my eye for composition and placement has gotten better. This has been helpful in my illustrative work as well.
I’m still delighted I was able to have that opportunity. It was also fun to learn how to use photoshop in a different way.

Photographing people has been a fun learning curve, Many of the photos I’ve taken are of a friend of mine who cosplays and enjoys having their photo taken. I personally love candid moments and doing photos outside to be able to shape branches around my subjects.
Many of the photos here are from going apple picking. I used the branches to enhance the atmosphere of the photos. These were actually all taken using a phone rather than a professional grade camera, but it was a fun learning curve. The cosplay photos were taken on SNHU grounds near a tree where I stood on a rock and used the setting sun’s light to cast my subject in light.
Initially, when I got into photography, I had get to figure out how to emphasize my lights and darks. It’s fun to look back at some of my older photos and compare them to more up to date ones.
Learning more about photography has helped me overall. Keeping in mind composition, lighting and contrast have all made me a better artist and a better photographer. Taking photos has helped me understand lighting more than anything else ever has as I’m a very hands on and visual person. When I look at photos, I can now understand the process behind making them. As I’ve gotten older, understanding how things are made has become more and more important to me. It makes me feel more connected to the world and people around me.
