Hello,
My name is Sillas (sill-iss) but I go by Sill.

I’m a New Hampshire artist. I’m a painter at heart but I love photography and writing. I enjoy doing portraits outside and still lifes. As for paintings, my physical paintings tend to be somewhat surreal while my digital pieces tend to be fixated on characters. I enjoy oil the most, but I paint with acrylic semi-regularly.

My writing tends to be, as I’ve heard it be described, as “Lovecraftian as Romance.” My poetry on the otherhand tends to be directed towards personal experience, mental health and current events.

“Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable”

This piece was created originally due to a blooming fixation in architecture. I created the initial figure of the person first, drawing on historical outfits and simplifying them. After completing the flat color stage, the additional details were added next. This included the little embroidery, pearls and lace. There is a subtle pagan and modern alternative preferences added in small ways.

This was made in Clip Studio Paint.

This photograph was made by arranging an assortment of fresh flowers. The mix of extreme detail of the petals and colors coupled with the pitch dark background made this exciting to make. The details were edited in photoshop for touch ups and fixing any bright spots.

This amount of detail was possible by using a flatbed scanner. The arrangement was done by hand by myself and the flowers were pressed against the screen and then scanned. That scan was then moved into photoshop where the dust particles were removed.

This was an acrylic piece. I actually enjoy and even prefer oil painting, but I’m proficient in both. I love painting and it brings me a lot of joy. I have noticed that as of more recent, I’ve had more surreal themes to my work.

All of my paintings begin with adding gesso to my canvas and sanding it down until it’s smooth. I then do a wash of watered down paint to lock my sketch in place and let it dry. After that, I do my underpainting to find out the values and contrast I want. Finally, the actual painting can begin.  The general size of paintings I do is around 18 by 24, but I actually prefer larger canvases. On average, a full painting, not including prep time which is about 3-4 hours, is about 10 hours give or take a few.
